Bengaluru Metro authorities plan to extend the Namma Metro Network to four outlying towns – Doddaballapur, Nelamangala, Devanahalli and Hoskote. According to media reports, a meeting was organised between chief minister Siddaramaiah, deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar, and Congress MLAs from Bengaluru Rural to discuss the metro expansion plan. The upcoming metro lines are expected to boost connectivity in the city while reducing traffic congestion.
Doddaballapur
Located in the Bangalore Rural district, Doddaballapur is around 40 km from Bangalore towards north on the Bangalore-Hindupur State Highway and about 20 km from Yelahanka.
Nelamangala
Nelamangala is another city in Bangalore Rural district, situated around 27 km from Bangalore towards Tumkur and Mumbai. It lies on National Highway-4 (NH4).
Devanahalli
Devanahalli is a town in Town Municipal Council in Bangalore Rural district, located 40 km to the north-east of Bangalore. The Kempegowda International Airport, which is in Devanahalli, is part of the Airport Line of the Bangalore Metro network.
Hoskote
Hoskote is a city in Bangalore Rural district. The Bangalore Metro’s Purple Line extension will cover 6 km from Whitefield to Hoskote.
Currently, the Bangalore Metro Network spans 69.66 km. The operational lines include a 39.34 km East-West corridor from Krishnarajapura to Whitefield (Kadugodi) and a 25.63 km section from East Baiyappanahalli to West Kengeri Terminal. An additional 30.32 km North-South corridor connects North Nagasandra to South Silk Institute.
