The 12-year old Tumkur University is all set to get a full-fledged campus on 240 acres at Bidarekatte, about 21 km from here, in five years.
After the state government rehabilitated the land owners at Dasudi in Chikkanayakanahalli village, the varsity has got a lease deed for 99 years.
Tenders were called for a comprehensive master plan from architects and it is likely to be finalised on April 23. If all goes as planned, the university will get all the necessary buildings developed on a maximum of 30 per cent of the land in a span of five years. The project costs not less than `600 crore.
The government has sanctioned `5 crore to construct the main gate and announced `10 crore in the budget to set up a centre of excellence. The university too has set aside `10 crore separately for the development works.
The Social Welfare Department has sanctioned `17.5 crore to construct three hostels on the campus for SC/ST students.
Vice-Chancellor A H Raja Sab said as soon as the master plan gets ready, a date will be fixed for the laying of foundation stone.
